These include his own imaginings; writers and poets whose work he admired; historical events; Greek and Roman mythology; piracy and the Spanish main and his abhorrence of war. | Little is known about Iris other than that she was a Chinese showgirl who posed for Norman during the 1930s. Norman drew a series of pencil studies of Iris in an elaborate head-dress and numerous oil paintings for which she posed. | ||
